The VOSD Helpdesk received an email from a student in Mumbai who wished to surrender their 8-year-old Golden Retriever. After the passing of a family member, his mother and he were struggling to look after the dog. A financial crisis and spending long hours away from home meant that ‘Alice’ wasn’t getting the right care she needed – her physical and mental health was on the decline. They tried rehoming her with a relative but she was soon dumped back on them. With no option left and their desperation increasing, Alice was transported to VOSD after following the standard surrender procedure.
Alice suffers from two primary health issues:
– Arthritis-for which she will get the VOSD Joint Care Supplement lifelong
– Improper digestion-for which an abdomen scan and customised diet along with medication and digestive supplements have been started
– Since she is a senior dog she will also be subject to routine blood tests to diagnose and treat any possible ailments.
It barely took the sweet girl a day to adjust into her new home under the tender and loving care of VOSD’s founder Rakesh Shukla. She stays by his side all day earning her the nickname “Chipku” (literally meaning stuck to someone)! She has also taken a great liking to the other dogs. One of Alice’s favourite things is a bright red ball that she can spend hours playing with and we’re more than happy to entertain her. For the rest of her time in VOSD, she will be greatly cherished and pampered.
It’s fortunate that Alice was not abandoned by the family during a crisis. Sadly, pet dogs are very often dumped on the streets and left to die when their owners can’t or don’t want to look after them anymore.
