Two senior Beagles named Chaya & Maya were ruthlessly bred for years after which they became a liability to their owner. Not wanting to care for them anymore – especially since they developed multiple health issues – the sisters were on the verge of being abandoned but instead, VOSD admitted them. And just a year later, Maya left us due to a tumour inside her intestine which couldn’t be removed surgically.
Chaya survived. Cataract had made her blind, her teeth were severely infected making it hard to eat solid food, she had pancreatitis, inflamed bowel disease, and other auto-immune disorders. All her ailments are addressed with the best medical care a dog can get in India, and she is healthy and happy today at our sanctuary.
Puppy mills and backyard breeders force dogs to reproduce in order to make a profit and meet the ever-growing demand of pure breeds. This gives to rise to an uncontrollable dog population with many of them ending up in shelters or being abandoned on the streets. It also leads to puppies being born with painful and life-threatening disabilities like hip dysplasia, blindness, bone and joint defects, skin problems, and so on.
No dog deserved to suffer such cruelty in the hands of unethical and illegal backyard breeders. Hundreds of such canines can be found across India crammed into tiny cages, tied up, beaten, forcefully impregnated, and finally thrown out when they are no longer of ay use or are too ill.
If you come across a dog that has been discarded by a breeder, you can surrender them to the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. A one-time fee of INR 20,000 will be levied, to help cover their LIFELONG food and medical expenses – more often than not, these poor dogs suffer from starvation, abuse, health issues and neglect which requires extensive treatment to cure. Step up to end a dog’s misery and save a breeder discarded dog by writing to info@vosd.in or visit https://vosd.in/ for further information.
