It’s been four glorious years since the blind Prithviraj was rescued by VOSD’s founder Rakesh Shukla. From a scrawny screaming pup to a confident, happy and playful adult, we’ve seen this precious boy blossom over time.
Rakesh fondly recalls, “In June 2018, I had gone for an official meeting. When I came out and I was walking to my car, I saw this small pup across the road. I’ve raised many blind dogs so I knew from his gait that he couldn’t see. And he was terrified of everything. So I found an empty cement sack, cornered him and picked him up. The sack was for my protection because I knew he would bite with all he has… and he did not disappoint and bit hard!” Rakesh took him home and named him after the brave Indian ruler Prithviraj Chauhan, who was blinded by his enemies but still fought back valiantly.
Apart from visual impairment, our boy also suffers from a skin condition caused by a bacterial superbug. He develops pus-filled pockets across his body for which he has been on very specialised medication virtually all his life. Yet, this doesn’t stop his papa Rakesh or his other doggie friends from cuddling together in bed all night. And when the sun shines, he loves playing with a ball, getting endless scratchies from his caregivers and of course, sneaking into the kitchen and sniffing the counters for food… despite eating more than his fair share every day!
The VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital is home to hundreds of such blind stray dogs who have all been admitted without a surrender fee since they couldn’t endure for long on the harsh streets. We are the only safe space in which they can learn to adapt despite having no vision, where no harm will befall them. To help us care for Prithviraj & his friends, please donate INR 5,000 (~$65) one-time or monthly for their food & medical expenses: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
