Krishna used to have the most beautiful eyes like lotus-eyed Lord Krishna. However, with age he developed cataract and lost sight in one eye. Fate took a turn for the worse when he lost vision in the other eye too, leaving him completely blind. The once completely independent stray dog was now not even able to fend for himself and the street – which was his home – became a very dangerous place for him.
A kind rescuer got very concerned about Krishna’s safety and upkeep. He was keen on finding a secure home where the 8-year-old dog could at least get two-square meals a day so he approached VOSD. We were happy to take in Krishna who came to us under the ‘Blind Dog Surrender’ category without a surrender fee.
Krishna’s story post coming to VOSD is a happy one. He sings the cutest song whenever he senses a human around; this invariably melts their heart and Krishna gets loads of scratchies and belly rubs in return. “We love having a big snuggly dog like him around!” says the team at the sanctuary.
Another inspiring facet of Krishna’s personality is that he has beautifully adapted himself to life without vision. His other senses of hearing and smell now operate at heightened degrees and help compensate for the lack of vision. The resourceful Krishna knows how to make the best of any situation and life finally has rewarded him; he has found a home and an endless supply of cuddles.
Krishna is not on any medication as he is quite fit for his age. However, he is still learning to locate and eat from a food bowl, so during feeding time one of our team members sits with him just in case the old guy needs some help.
Hundreds of old blind dogs like Krishna who are absolutely unable to live safely on the streets come to VOSD for lifelong care. Please help us provide a life of dignity to more dogs like him by donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
