Discarded by breeder at birth, JOEY about to complete 10 years with VOSD

JOEY: A GREAT DANE WHO IS THE EPITOME OF RESILIENCE COMPLETES 10 YEARS AT VOSD!

50 kilos of pure love and enthusiasm – that’s Joey, our Harlequin Dane. She was rescued by VOSD’s founder Rakesh Shukla 10 years years ago after ruthlessly being discarded by a breeder. She was born with a deformity in her forelegs known as rickets, which made her an “unwanted and damaged” puppy.

But one person’s loss is another’s gain and we are certainly enriched by having Joey in our lives. She teaches us two important lessons every day:

Resilience – In her years at VOSD, she’s survived critical intestinal perforation, multiple surgeries and is currently fighting chronic kidney disease. Not once has she let her health issues come in the way of her living a giant-sized fun life.

Compassion – Joey is a very large and very loving dog. Some of the smallest, most timid or scared dogs have grown up under her protection because she befriended them! The pack then follows her lead, and welcomes them into the family.

It is perhaps Joey’s pain and experience that makes her such a great mama to many dogs with special needs just like hers. VOSD is a permanent home to dogs who have been blinded with acid, run over and paralysed, physically assaulted, slashed with knives or tied to train tracks to die. She understands their pain and helps them heal, will you be a hero and support a special needs dog too?

A one-time or monthly donation of INR 5,000 ($61) towards the food and medicine bills of our dogs and can ensure they have a healthy future. Step up and save a life today: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
