Diwali is the most beautiful time of the year at VOSD. We celebrate it with much fanfare, imbued in the spirit of worship, togetherness and homecoming…
First of all, we pay a homage to our chosen deity ‘The Kal Bhairav’. We beautify the temple and apply oil to Lord Bhairav and his canine companion’s idol. In the evening, all employees, gather to offer their prayers. After the Pooja, everyone receives a box of sweets from our founder Rakesh Shukla.
And then we mingle and wish each other a ‘Happy Diwali’; and have a pleasant evening. We retire for the night at 9 pm as dogs are ALWAYS a priority and celebrations shouldn’t cause harm to them!
DOG CARE DURING DIWALI
Please take the following steps to ensure the safety of your dogs during Diwali:
1. Start your dog on a course of ayurvedic anxiety care medicines a week prior to the festival – consult your Dr on dosage and use. Werecommend the VOSD Anxiety Care syrup: https://shop.vosd.in/collections/pet-care-products/products/anxiety-care
2. Put a collar on your pet or strat dog with your contact number on it. So, in case of an emergency, someone can reach out to you!
3. Feed the evening meal to pet and stray dogs as early as 4 or 5 pm. Keep a water bowl for stray dogs.
4. Take dogs for their evening walks early before celebrations begin.
5. Keep a first-aid kit handy to help injured dogs.
6. Stay connected to dog lovers on WhatsApp groups – that way you can reach out to people willing to help.
7. Pet dogs who are scared of loud noises benefit from the anti-anxiety wrap. The video demonstrates how the wrap can alleviate anxiety – https://youtu.be/hjU5_xgZGu0. DO NOT TRY this technique on stray dogs as the wrap may get stuck in wires.
8.Dog lovers, who have the means, should consider sending their oldest or weakest strays to boarding shelters out side the city during peak festival season.
Lastly, the best way to celebrate any festival is… to be with people and dogs you love. Spread the joy by giving sweets to the poor. Or make a gift to any NGO that supports a cause close to your heart. To help VOSD save more dogs, donate here: https://vosd.in
