In most cases, senior dogs tend to become slow and they prefer snoozing in a spot all day. However, in our case they seem to be getting younger with age! The longest canine residents of VOSD who have lived at the sanctuary for over a decade are the funniest, silliest, naughtiest, and most playful of the lot, they give younger ones a run for their money. We wear this pride like a badge on our chests, elated that we could provide these dogs – who once didn’t have a home or hope of survival on the streets – a stable, loving and comfortable home.
LUCKY for instance was just a wee pup when she was found on the streets by VOSD’s founder Rakesh Shukla. Malnourished, covered in ticks and fleas, and getting drenched in the rain, Rakesh knew if he didn’t act soon she would die, so he rescued and took her home. She has now completed not just ten but 13 glorious years by his side!
HUSNA was reported to VOSD by a dog lover after the black puppy’s snout got mutilated in a bike accident. She couldn’t have survived on the street with only part of her jaw and needed lifelong care so she was surrendered to VOSD. This year she completed a decade of being with us too!
The list is endless…
Ganga the big girl from Goa who’s one of the largest Indian dogs at the sanctuary
Choti Ganga (who was named after Ganga since they look similar) sneaking around to lick the food bowls clean
Aloo Puri’s adorable toothless smile
Sanjana and Taimur who have damaged limbs but have embrace life like any other dogs
Munni who is ever ready to greet people with her tail wags
Among many others, these beautiful dogs have lived their best years at VOSD and will continue to do so until their last breath. But what facilitates their longevity and excellent quality of life? VOSD provides all its canine residents hygienic and safe accommodation, nutritious meals, sophisticated and specialised medical treatments, and personalised care. This makes it possible for dogs who faced abuse or neglect in the past, couldn’t survive on the harsh Indian roads, were born with congenital defects, or abandoned pet dogs to thrive under our care.
