She took Meera to a veterinary hospital where an X-Ray revealed that she had spondylosis and an old fracture in the left femoral head. Doctors gave the pooch I/V fluids and other injectables for five days, which led to some improvement in her condition. However, it became clear to the rescuer that finding a safer environment for Meera was a serious and urgent requirement as she still couldn’t walk. She approached VOSD and we admitted her under our ‘Hospice’ category without a surrender fee.
The first few days at our sanctuary, Meera didn’t interact with any humans and preferred to stay inside her room. Her caregivers kept the door of her room open hoping she would venture out some morning. One day, our team saw her standing on all fours; more incredibly she was also walking! The reason behind her miraculous recovery is proper care and nutrition. At VOSD, she receives wholesome regular meals and a chance to rest, unlike the street where she would have had to rummage for food. She also gets nerve and joint supplements to improve her mobility.
Today Meera is perfectly healthy and happy at our sanctuary. She chills with her dog friends, eats her food and lives a quiet life in the sanctuary; away from stressful life on the streets.
