During the pandemic lockdown in July 2020, a pet dog was thrown out on the streets after she became pregnant. She had no street survival skills, and to worsen her plight she gave birth to six puppies whom she struggled to care for. As days passed she became very weak; her puppies began dying due to lack of nourishment.
No rescuer from Bengaluru bothered to help them until VOSD stepped in to rescue Jackie and her remaining two kids Sooji and Boondi. We usually do not take in stray dogs with a litter — it is mentioned in detail in our FAQs. However, we made an exception in this instance to ensure the family’s lifelong safety and care.
The puppies were a bundle of energy when they came in, but unfortunately we lost Sooji a few months ago to a sudden illness. It was heart-breaking for us but both Boondi and Jackie showed exemplary resilience in overcoming the loss. They found the strength to forge new friendships with dogs who helped them believe in love and companionship again! Jackie is now part of a pack that is as excitable and energetic as her, while Boondi who was always the quieter one settled into a group of blind and special needs dogs that enjoy peace and quiet. They are both in good health and over the past two years have embraced every aspect of life at VOSD.
Abandoned pet dogs often end up dying on the streets because of lack of food & shelter, being attacked by other stray dogs, or out of sheer heartbreak. Many of them don’t end up finding adopters either. The VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital is haven for hundreds of such dogs brought to us from across India. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, we give them the best of accommodation, medical aid, food & supplements, and lots of love to help them feel whole and safe again.
To donate for the upkeep of Jackie and her doggo friends, please contribute INR 5,000 (~$63) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
