On a dreadfully dark night, a stray dog was cornered and mercilessly beaten up by a bunch of men. The poor dog’s feeder found her bloody and all mangled up the next morning. The kind feeder rushed Hershey to a veterinary clinic where her treatment was initiated promptly.

After weeks of medical intervention, Hershey recovered completely but unfortunately the beating caused paralysis in her hind legs. Given her new disability, Hershey couldn’t be left back on the streets that posed threats from humans and vehicles. So, the feeder approached the VOSD helpdesk and Hershey came to us under the ‘special needs dogs’ category.

Hershey is the embodiment of the words gentle and loving. Despite everything that’s happened to her, she loves us humans so consistently; it’s beyond comprehension as to how someone could hit such a sweet child.

We have started her on a strength-gaining diet to ensure overall well-being and leg health. Our team gives Infrared physiotherapy to Hershey everyday to help reduce pain, inflammation and to aid wound care and tissue repair.

Since Hershey is paralysed, she soils herself multiple times a day and we are happy to get her all cleaned up every time to avert infections. Hershey will get all the love and care she needs to live a quality life at VOSD and she will never be victimised again.

People who beat her up moved on after releasing their misdirected aggression, and Hershey was left to bear the consequences of their instability. Luckily, Hershey found the help she needed but hundreds of dogs across India are routinely subjected to violent attacks from people. Help us bring more such dogs to the safety of VOSD by donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
