Misty, a young stray dog in Pune, was being cared for by some dog lovers. One morning, a volunteer informed the VOSD team in Pune that Misty had not been seen for a few days. Our team spotted her the next morning near a construction site in an area which was overgrown with grass and shrubs. The poor pooch was in bad shape – she was weak, dull, unable to get up, and was not eating. Her abdomen appeared yellow which is a classic symptom of jaundice, so our team rushed her to a senior vet.
The blood report confirmed that she not only had jaundice and a compromised liver but tick fever too. As a result, her normal kidney function was affected, and the vet mentioned that she has arrhythmia (heart condition). She was started on IV fluid therapy to treat the severe infections and put on lifelong supplements for her heart, liver, and kidneys.
Within a few weeks of intense treatment, her condition improved but she couldn’t be released back on the street due to her health complications. So she was admitted to VOSD for advanced veterinary treatment and lifelong care.
Misty is fed a nutritious diet, medication & supplements, and is monitored daily by trained medical staff. She also gets monthly check-ups including blood tests, x-rays, and scans to rule out the recurrence of tick fever or any other issues. She has been eating well and finally has the hope of leading a healthy and carefree life at our sanctuary along with her doggo and human friends!
