A stray dog was found siting on a road with both his eyes popping out. A kind lady who spotted him helped him across the road to a safer place and immediately reached out to an NGO. They had him picked up and taken to their hospital, where they confirmed that both his eyes would have to be removed as they were severely damaged.
The surgery had to be pushed for a few days because his blood reports indicated he wasn’t fit. So with intensive care, nutritious food, and medication, ‘Whitey’ was given the green signal. The surgery left him completely blind meaning he couldn’t be returned to the streets. So he was admitted to the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital for lifelong care.
VOSD does not charge a surrender fees for blind stray dogs.
Whitey barely took a day to find his way around; he has already found his favourite spot! Over the weeks he has become super naughty too, tugging on his caregivers’ clothes for attention or pushing the humans out of their chairs so he can snooze on it 🙂
Blind stray dogs don’t stand a chance of surviving on the streets due to the high rate of accidents. The practice of adopting such dogs isn’t prevalent in India either, leaving VOSD as their only hope. We are always willing to admit a dog without vision, so that we can be their eyesight. Help us by contributing INR 5,000 ($65) one-time or monthly so that we can continue being a loving and safe home for several other blind stray dogs: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
