A large, furry mixed-breed dog was found abandoned in Nashik last year. Watch her story here: https://bit.ly/3AXy87A She was surrendered to VOSD primarily because her size intimidated people, and she was extremely aggressive with other dogs.
For months after she reached the sanctuary, we socialised with her every day and took her out for long walks so she would be exposed to dogs of all ages and sizes. Much to our surprise, in April 2023 Candy finally shed her aggression and transformed into a playful and happy companion! We believe that the pooches at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital too played a huge role in teaching her that rather than attacking or fighting them, it’s much more fun to play all day! Candy realized that her defensiveness and aggression can be channelled into safe play sessions so she was more than happy to turn a new leaf and fit in. She now roams freely across the sanctuary hopping and playing with people and dogs alike.
We strive to achieve transformations like these every day at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. Our team of caregivers and dog handlers work closely with canines who suffer from behavioural issues to rehabilitate them using a positive reward-based training system in the hope they overcome their trauma/stress and lead happy & carefree lives.
To support the upkeep, food, and medicine bills of abandoned dogs like Candy who now thrive at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital please donate INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
