Beaten with bricks, puppy survives: NOW UNDER OUR CARE at VOSD

NEW DOG AT VOSD: PUPPY HIT WITH BRICKS & THROWN IN A FIELD TO DIE COMES TO VOSD FOR LIFELONG CARE

A six-month-old community pup who was very active and healthy was living at a construction site. She was the only surviving pup without a mother and had fought against all odds that came her way – right from the flooding in the area due to heavy rains, Diwali crackers and bombs, to the daily struggle for food and shelter in a rapidly changing construction site.

In December 2022, the little pup named Choti was sleeping in a corner when a drunk man bashed her with bricks. To avoid any public attention, he threw her inside a field nearby where no humans lived. Some locals who witnessed this brutality thought that the pup was dead and informed her caretakers. They were heart broken and went in search of her body to give her a proper burial… but to their surprise they found her alive! She was lying in pain and crying all alone, blood oozing profusely from her limbs, eyes and mouth. The poor girl was in that position for at least eight hours before help arrived.

But God saves the brave who wish to live! After she was rescued, Choti was taken to a vet hospital and given treatment. Later, an NGO agreed to take care of her for a few months while she recovered. Once the pup had completely healed, she couldn’t be left back at the construction site nor did she have any adopters so she was surrendered to VOSD for lifelong care.

Choti was terrified of humans when she first arrived due to the trauma she had faced. Our team spent weeks socialising with her through a reward-based system and finally, she let her guard down! The sweet pup was quick to befriend our other dogs so she now lives in an enclosure with tiny tots her size and age.

It is heart-breaking that Choti experienced the worst of human brutality at such a young age, but because her rescuer didn’t give up on her she lived to tell the tale. At VOSD, she won’t ever have to worry about food, shelter, or safety – she gets comfortable accommodation, nutritious meals twice a day, and companionship from her caregivers and canine buddies.
