Whitey, a mixed Indian breed dog was abandoned at a veterinary hospital when her previous owners realised she couldn’t see anymore. The hospital staff consulted with an ophthalmologist who confirmed that she didn’t have eyesight. Additionally, the poor dog was also diagnosed with tick fever for which she was treated.
However, the hospital staff knew she couldn’t be confined in a cage forever, so they approached VOSD to surrender her. VOSD is India’s largest and best managed facility for blind stray dogs – we admit them from any part of the country without a surrender fee. We readily accepted Whitey into our home and our hearts so a date was set for her journey from Pune to our sanctuary.
As much as we accepted her, she was hesitant to let anyone close to her; possibly since she couldn’t see to assess if she could trust us. We noticed she was great with our dogs though especially other blind ones. Over the next few weeks, our team spent time socialising with her every day and she took a liking to Niraj, a paravet, because he fed her delicious treats every day!
Whitey was abandoned when she needed help the most after losing her vision – her world literally turned dark. However, she found a ray of hope in VOSD and doesn’t have to worry about being hurt ever again. Like hundreds of other blind dogs who reside and receive the best care at our sanctuary, Whitey too will have a safe and happy future.
To support the care of 1,000+ special needs stray dogs and abandoned pet dogs at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital, we request you to donate INR 5,000 (~$62) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/. These gifts of kindness will go a long way in saving a dog without a home or hope.
