Hailing from the campus of IIT Kanpur is Mona, a mixed breed Indian dog who was dearly loved by many. Since 2018, she had been suffering from a skin-related problem that was eventually diagnosed as Demodectic Mange. She was admitted in hospital for treatment; two months after, following her discharge, her caretakers met all her nutritional and medical needs.
However, when the pandemic lockdown began in March 2020, the students had to vacate their hostels. They shifted Mona to a hospital in Lucknow, where she was under continual treatment for her skin issues. “According to the vet, Mona’s medication will have to continue for at least another year or so because the mange might relapse if there’s a break,” wrote her caretaker to us.
Since no one could provide long-term treatment for Mona, or find a suitable adopter to look after her, she was surrendered to VOSD for lifelong care. Mona is an absolute darling and she’s settled well with her fellow canine companions and ‘hoomans’. She’s an energetic, playful, and curious girl so we take her out on long walks around the campus. We’re keeping a close watch on her health condition, and are taking precautions to prevent another outbreak of mange.
