Courageous old dog finally bids goodbye to his new family at VOSD

REST IN PEACE TATAPPA: INJURED ELDERLY STRAY DOG WHO LIVED AT VOSD TILL THE AGE OF 16!

In mid-2020 during the first lockdown, VOSD was informed about an old stray dog with a severely injured leg – he was estimated to be about 13 years old. He was unable to move or fend for food, shelter, or safety. The rescuers got him treated at a vet hospital but knew he couldn’t survive on the streets even if he recovered; hence they requested VOSD to admit him.

VOSD Hospice accepts senior and injured/unwell stray dogs without any surrender fee, and provides them the best palliative care in the country. So Tatappa was on his way to the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital. To aid in the healing of his leg injury he was put on some antibiotics, along with the VOSD Joint Care Supplement. All senior dogs like Tatappa get a highly nutritious yet easily digestible diet to maintain good health.

For the next three years, the gentle dog led a happy life at VOSD. Unfortunately, he breathed his last recently due to natural causes at the age of 16. During his entire time with us he was comfortable around other dogs but never humans – so he lived with a pack of senior & special needs dogs and got along well with them. Only during his last few weeks did he let one of our caregivers pet him… just for a few minutes. Maybe it was his way of thanking the team for looking after him all these years.

We’ll miss sweet old Tatappa but are grateful that he passed away peacefully without any health complications. May his soul rest in peace.

He is survived by hundreds of other elderly stray dogs at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital who were surrendered to us under similar circumstances. After braving the streets for years, they were admitted for hospice care to us since they needed food, medical care, and a safe space to live in. You can support VOSD in providing end-of-life aid for these pooches by donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
