15 year old resident dog of VOSD bids his final goodbye | Rest in Peace

SHERLOCK SAYS HIS FINAL GOODBYE | REST IN PEACE

Sherlock suffered a severe neck injury three years ago; the old dog also had a bad case of arthritis and diminishing eyesight. That’s when the puny-looking Sherlock, who could no longer survive on the streets, came to VOSD Hospice for lifelong care.

Sherlock crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this month. He spent the final years of his life well looked after and amidst his VOSD family. Today, we’d like to take a moment to reminisce about the times he spent with us.

Sherlock was all personality from the minute he entered VOSD premises. The cute little dog had big ambitions of bossing around all other dogs at the sanctuary. And after spending a few days recovering from his illness, Sherlock did become the big boss man, whose food nobody could dare touch, whose bed nobody could lay in. Street life taught him to be tough and territorial and he stayed that way till the very end.

It was quite amusing to watch Sherlock snarl at bigger dogs like Barood and Bruno, but we all had a quiet respect for his fierceness. His passionate displays of anger stood for his primal need for self-preservation. He reminded us that aggression was an important survival tool and that one must embrace one’s ‘shadow’ to live a life of courage and dignity.

Sherlock had a softer side too which was quite aligned with his adorable toy-dog looks. He loved hanging with his humans and taking afternoon siestas. He was very attached to his bed and his favorite snooze spots and yeah others weren’t allowed to encroach upon them.

Sherlock lived to be 15 and he enjoyed good health even towards the end of his life. He brightened our days with his animated persona, and it was our utmost pleasure to have shared space with him.

We do hope and pray Sherlock gets his own wonderful spot in doggie heaven and loads of treats and naps till we meet again.

Until then, take care Sherlock, we’ll miss you dearly and you’ll always have a special place in our hearts.
