As much as these roads belong to people, they do to stray dogs as well. One such Indian dog who was thriving on the streets of Hyderabad decided she wanted to make more human friends and began jumping into the compound of their houses – but she didn’t know this would angry the residents! They went up in arms against her “deviant behaviour” and threatened to harm her if she wasn’t restricted.
Cheeku’s caretaker fostered her for a few weeks while desperately trying to find a suitable adopter, but her efforts went in vain. Knowing the neighbours’ hostile attitude towards the poor dog, she didn’t want to return Cheeku to the streets. So she surrendered her to VOSD under the “Failed Adoption” category.
Since she came to us in 2021, we have embraced the adorable pooch’s adventurous and friendly spirit. We’ve introduced her to many dogs whom she loves playing with, and we let her go on long strolls around the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital as much as she pleases. The very reason why she was hated is exactly what we LOVE about Cheeku, and we’re looking forward to many years of her playfulness and companionship.
Stray dogs are considered a menace in Indian society and people will stoop to any length to harm them. When these poor canines don’t have a safe home to go to and their life is at threat on the streets, VOSD will be there for them. Hundreds of Indian dogs like Cheeku who might have met a pitiful end now lead happy & free lives under our care. Gift them your love by donating INR 5,000 (~$64) one-time or monthly for their food & medical expenses: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
