Old man Sherlock came to VOSD two years ago with multiple health issues. But today he has metamorphosed into the undisputed alpha dog of VOSD! How did a frail-looking senior dog manage to reign supreme over much healthier and younger dogs?
Well, he is grumpy, territorial, and ferocious but most importantly he has grit. Sherlock has never once shown any signs of fear and maybe his confidence is the reason he thrives even in his advanced years – he is now 14. Although he has had struggles such as abscesses around his joints or ear infections, he’s responded well to treatment and medication. For a dog of his age, he is in pretty good health and that’s the magic of VOSD!
Sherlock has also put on weight since he came to us. He loves his food and tries to assert his dominance over other dogs during meal times, which is why we have to keep him tied while he eats. He also has his favourite spot for a post-meal snooze. All hell breaks loose if another dog tries to steal his bed! The ol’ man knows how to protect his territory and that is why he is the undesignated king of VOSD.
Needless to say, Sherlock wouldn’t have survived on the streets in his old age given his multiple health issues. But fate had other plans – he was surrendered to us for lifelong care. Hundreds of old, injured stray dogs like him suffer from wounds and the lack of care or safety.
