Shivu’s family kept him tied inside their house compound for ten years. It was a constricted, monotonous existence but still there was some familiarity and security.
One unfortunate day, even the security was snatched away from Shivu when his family moved to another house and abandoned the pooch on the streets. To add insult to injury, the construction workers who were tasked with demolishing Shivu’s old house chased him away. This was enough to break Shivu’s heart; after this the old dog stopped eating completely.
Soon things took a turn for the worse; since Shivu was not used to navigating the busy streets, he got hit by a speeding car. Now Shivu was homeless, wounded and an emotional wreck.
Thankfully, Shivu’s plight caught the attention of a kind rescuer. She figured he wouldn’t be able to make it without multi-pronged intervention. So, she approached the VOSD helpdesk, and we were happy to bring Shivu to his forever home.
Shivu was finally free, secure and at home for the first time in ten years and he has fallen in love with his new life. The dear boy enjoys exploring the beautiful grounds and socialising with his caretakers and his dog mates. We take extra efforts to bond with Shivu, just so he completely forgets about the brutal rejection and betrayal that defined his past. Mealtimes are a celebration of Shivu’s love for nourishment, and he is absolutely comfortable at VOSD. He will stay with us till the end of his days, and we will never let him suffer any indignities again.
Thousands of dogs like Shivu are treated cruelly and discarded by their insensitive, whimsical owners. Help us provide a safe haven to more dogs like Shivu by donating INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
