Hope, the old labrador, was abandoned outside a government clinic in an extremely fragile physical state; she had bruises on her neck and paws, was covered with flies, unable to relieve herself and grossly underweight.
The poor dog couldn’t even get up so the rescuer took her to the vet; where it was revealed that the aged pooch had a weak bladder and the bruise marks around her neck had been caused due to long periods of chaining. After many weeks of medical treatment, Hope regained her health and was put up for adoption.
However, the chaining, the ruthless abandonment and a difficult past had led to development of anxiety and a major fear of people in the poor dog. Due to these behavioural issues, Hope couldn’t be rehomed. As a last resort, Hope’s rescuer approached the VOSD helpdesk, and she came to live with us for lifelong care.
At the VOSD sanctuary, Hope gets to lead the free-roaming lifestyle that she so loves; she will never be chained again. She has been put on a special weight and strength-gaining diet; she gets regular health check-ups and lots of free time to relax and appreciate the good life at VOSD.
She is comfortable around other dogs but is still quite wary of humans. We are hopeful that with time and tender loving care, our beautiful Hope will accept us humans and revel in our company as well.
