Motu had grown old and could hardly stand or walk because of her severe arthritis. She used to rest outside a restaurant; but the staff didn’t like an aged, smelly, obese stary dog sitting outside their space, so they beat her up routinely. At nights, one could hear her wailing in due to her joint pains.
A kind lady became cognizant of the situation and asked the staff to be gentle with a senior dog, who had lived in the area her whole life; but they were firm on their intolerant stance. They even threatened to relocate Motu because her unsightly appearance was ruining the vibe of their posh, elite and exclusive outlet. How could they include or care about an old crying dog?
So, as a last resort she approached the VOSD helpdesk and Motu came to us under the ‘VOSD Hospice’ surrender category.
Motu lives up to jolly-fat stereotype; she is so happy and friendly both with dogs and people. The sweetest attribute of hers is that she follows us around for scratches and approaches anyone who looks a little less occupied. Her wonderful presence makes the sanctuary come alive, it’s quite unfortunate people in the outside world couldn’t appreciate her value.
As far as fitness goes, Motu has been put on a diet, her portions are meticulously controlled so that she doesn’t overeat; she gets a lot of exercise walking on the sanctuary grounds, and regularly takes VOSD joint supplements for her arthritis. The three-pronged approach has led to considerable weight reduction, and we have witnessed a transformation in her quality of life.
When Motu first came, she even had difficulty walking but now she walks with ease and even runs up to us for pets. She will live with us happily till the end of her days and the pleasure is all ours.
