One of the VOSD Pune team members got a call from a local mentioning that a stray dog was hit by an auto rikshaw. The poor pooch was above 12 years of age and wasn’t able to get up post the accident. Our team had her picked up and moved her to a hospital for first aid, and then took her to a senior doctor for further diagnosis.
The vet was shocked that the dog had survived, given that she was already suffering from osteo arthritis, and had now sustained a hip dislocation. Since the injury was so severe, yet age was a concern, surgery to fix the displaced hip joint wasn’t an option. So Gudiya was started on extensive treatment for the joint to be able to fix on its own. The prognosis however was guarded as the vet wasn’t sure she would walk again.
Gudiya was moved to a boarding centre so she could be monitored and given her medication & treatment on time. Miraculously, she started moving around within a few weeks and can now walk! Her hind legs have regained strength and she has built up all the lost muscle. In fact, she hates being indoors – she follows people around all day wagging her stubby tail at them. If she really likes someone, she even whines and sings them a love song!
This sweet dog will spend the rest of her life at the boarding centre since she is too old and frail to be left back on the streets. Thanks to a kind donor, so far her treatment and stay have been sponsored for. We urge more such kind-hearted dog lovers to come forth and donate so that VOSD Pune can save more such ailing, elderly stray dogs who cannot survive on the streets alone: https://vosd.in/pune-rescues/
