An animal welfare volunteer from Pune recently got in touch with us to surrender a partially blind stray dog. The kind lady feeds more than 50 -100 strays every day and looks into their medical needs, sterilisation and adoptions.
Sweety was one such dog whom the lady had been feeding for the past three years. Of late, the dog’s vision drastically reduced, which made it difficult for her to survive on the streets. Sweety got bitten by stray dogs multiple times in frantic attempts to run from one place to another. Over time she lost the ability to defend herself or look for food.
Her caretaker admitted her to a shelter to be treated for her bite wounds and fever. Since the seven-year-old dog lost her confidence to live on the streets, and neither did anyone come forth to adopt her, the lady approached us to surrender Sweety.
She might not be able to see very well, but that hasn’t dampened her spirit. It’s barely been two days since this old girl reached our sanctuary but she already runs up to us for hugs and kisses! Her frosted face is so cute that we can’t resist halting all our other work to sit down and play with her for a few minutes. We’ll slowly introduce her to our pack of delicate, older dogs who also have trouble with their vision, and we’re sure she’ll settle in with them well.
VOSD admits blind street dogs without surrender fees. We are their only home and hope towards the end of their life. Once under our care, they are provided with the best of food, accommodation, medical aid, and vet visits. So please join us to care for such helpless dogs who otherwise would not survive on the streets. Donate INR 5,000 (~$68) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses
