In only the first year of their lives, Mottu and Chitti had to traverse a long perilous road to finally reach a place where they could live with dignity. They were adopted by a family as mere puppies. Soon, the dogs had to be sent to the family’s village because of accommodation issues in the city. The village, with its open and green spaces, should have been an ideal place for the young, curious dogs but their stay turned into a nightmare.

At first, the siblings excitedly explored the village grounds. They went on several adventures and enjoyed chasing country chickens and goats. However, the locals took strong exception to the dogs and started to beat up the siblings regularly. After repeated altercations with Mottu and Chitti’s caretakers too, the villagers threatened to kill the pooches. And one day, in a fit of uncontrolled rage, the villagers cut off Chitti’s ears and her tail.
Thereafter, the dogs were kept chained up all day long. The family tried to get them adopted, but their efforts bore no fruit. Finally, with the intent to secure a better life for the little dogs, they were surrendered to VOSD under the ‘Cruelty Survivor Dogs’ category with no surrender fee.

Mottu and Chitti are finally home. Predictably, they were extremely confused and scared to be in a far-off unfamiliar place in the beginning. By and by, our team started to interact with them as we were informed the dogs manifested a friendly temperament. Mottu warmed up to us more readily whereas Chitti, understandably, is still a bit wary. In the coming days, both siblings will be sterilised and when the time is right, they will be introduced to a pack of dogs. The siblings get nutritious, timely meals and are encouraged to explore the grounds and express their playful nature. Soon, their painful past will fade into oblivion and they will embrace a happy future.

Hundreds of dogs who have suffered unthinkable acts of cruelty find safety, love, and lifelong medical care at VOSD. To help us provide homes to more dogs like Mottu and Chitti, please consider donating of INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
