Rocky hit rock bottom when his family abandoned him on the streets. The dog lay dazed and confused in the muddy corner of a street when a kind lady noticed him. She could clearly see that Rocky was not on his home turf and that the old labrador had been discarded by his people; he would need help to go the distance.
The lady took him home with the intent of fostering Rocky. A vet visit revealed that poor Rocky’s health had been greatly neglected by his previous owners. While caring for Rocky, his foster mom tried to get him adopted but the old dog found no takers. As a last resort, she requested us to take Rocky in for lifelong care.
And we were delighted to bring Rocky to VOSD Sanctuary and Hospital. Our resident labrador Barood, who had also been abandoned by his previous family, was first to greet Rocky. Rocky felt so comfortable and reassured after meeting Barood that sweet ol’ dog decided to take a shortish nap. Upon waking, he was welcomed by the rest of the pack members and instantly knew that this kinship will last forever.
Rocky has been put on a strength-gaining diet so that he stays sturdy and playful in his old age. The lovely pooch is basking in the warmth of all the wonderful interactions he’s been having with his brothers and caretakers. We are excited to give him the wonderful life all dogs deserve. He will be cherished, cared for and will participate gleefully in the dance of life with his new family.
So, Rocky’s heart was finally mended. He reached a place of safety and empathy. But hundreds of abandoned dogs find themselves stranded far away from home, on lonely highways or busy streets, where they are faced with an onslaught of dangerous situations, which they are unable to surmount.
