Oreo’s life is an unfortunate example of what early life trauma can do to a baby. Little Oreo was harshly separated from his mother and sold off to a woman who treated him like a mere toy for her kid to play with; and kept the dog tethered 24/7 in the bottom shelf of her kitchen cabinet. At an age when he needed the warm caresses of a loving parent, Oreo was subjected to abuse and abject neglect. The fall out of this miserable turn of events was that Oreo developed multiple food allergies and a stubborn skin infection.
Luckily, a volunteer noticed Oreo’s plight, got the cops involved and with much difficulty rescued the boy. The little dog stayed in a foster home for a while, but he needed a forever home. All adoption appeals failed as no one came forward to take home an indie pup with patchy fur. And, he couldn’t be left on the streets as he had a severe allergic reaction to foods ranging from dairy, rice, chicken, pedigree, biscuits to eggs. As a last resort, Oreo was surrendered to VOSD under the rescuer’s surrender category.
At VOSD, Oreo finally got the little puppy experiences that were denied to him in his early life. The boy whose existence was confined to a cramped kitchen shelf, now has acres of land ahead of him; and he knows just what to with his freedom. He runs all across the sanctuary till he is completely and contentedly tired. He has made friends with Otis and Kajri and they play together till nightfall; and the next day they repeat the same glorious routine.
Moreover, his physical issues have also been brought under check by our team. He was put on steroids, for a brief period, for his food allergies and lactose intolerance. We are slowly introducing him to the food other dogs at VOSD consume and hope that he will surmount this condition very soon. We also regularly apply VOSDs 6-in-1 lotion to contain his skin infections.
Oreo was objectified and treated like a lifeless toy by the woman who bought him, at VOSD we treat him like our boy who deserves to have the best life experiences.
