In April this year, an approximately four-month-old pup wandered into a neighbourhood in Bengaluru. It was certainly not her territory – she was alone, emaciated, and with bite marks on her body. She was allegedly beaten by a security guard, and lying listless on the road, barely able to walk.

A kind lady who spotted her picked her up and brought her home; after a quick meal and some water the puppy felt better. She was thin and a bit wobbly on her legs but able to walk, however, unfit to be released back on the street in an alien territory. The rescuer asked around but could not find where she came from. She then decided to get her checked by the vet and vaccinated. “We named her Tofu,” she mentioned.

Just when the rescuer thought of putting her up for adoption, Tofu began having seizures. “It is virtually impossible to find an adopter who is willing to raise her with this medical condition,” she wrote to us, which left her no option but to surrender the puppy to VOSD.

Once she reached our sanctuary, we started her on medication for epilepsy and she has been doing better! The little kid found friends of her age and size to play with – Archie and Gangubai who are also special needs pups – and the trio run around all day!

At VOSD, dogs with special needs who had no hope of surviving on the streets find new hope. We provide them comfortable & hygienic accommodation, nutritious meals, medication, vet check-ups, and lots of love.
