A senior dog named Brownie lived near a busy road. The sweet girl was in the habit of sleeping outside a restaurant building; but the restaurant staff didn’t like having an old dog around, so they beat her up every opportunity they got. Consequently, she had to scramble to find shelter under parked vehicles and on the street. This put Brownie, whose vision and hearing are vastly impaired due to her age, under constant threat of being hit or run over.
The poor dog was also having trouble finding food; so, a kind lady, who noticed her plight, approached the VOSD helpdesk and requested us to look into the matter. We were happy to take Brownie in, who came to us under the VOSD Hospice category.
Brownie was very happy to be finally home safe at VOSD sanctuary. She has a room all to herself here, she gets regular nutritious meals which are served inside her quarters and she doesn’t have to go looking for food anymore. Despite being partially blind and deaf, Brownie likes to explore her surroundings, so we let her out to roam around in the dog parks during the day, in the evenings she lounges about in the verandah.
In the early days, she squealed and got scared whenever anybody tried to touch her, perhaps she got reminded of the beatings by the restaurant staff, but now she has gotten quite comfortable with being petted. She also allows us to carry her around to the park and back to the rooms.
Thankfully, Brownie will get to spend the end of her life with dignity and among people who will treat her kindly. At least this story gets a happy ending.
Help us provide homes to more dogs like Brownie, who endure cruelty, starvation and various threats on the streets. Please consider a gift of INR 5,000 (~$62) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/.
