Earlier this year, a dog rescuer wrote to the VOSD Helpdesk about admitting a mixed-breed Indian puppy named Wolf who had high fear and aggression traits making it impossible for him to get adopted. He was rescued along with his siblings during the heavy rains in Bengaluru. While the rest of the litter found homes, Wolf got left behind due to his behavioural issues.
Right from when he was 45 days old he displayed distrust towards humans although he had never experienced a single negative incident in his life. He was showered with a lot of love and affection but nothing seems to break the ice with him. Over time, this fear and distrust magnified to such an extent that even seeing a human from a distance made him fearful, and it further got channelised into aggression making him a very unpredictable dog. The rescuer reached out to VOSD as a last resort in the hope that Wolf would find a permanent home with us where he would be happy, surrounded by his own kind.
Upon reaching the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital after the standard surrender process was followed, Wolf was shifted to the hospital so he could get to interact with people and dogs of different age groups and sizes. He seemed comfortable around our older dogs which helped him a great deal in letting his guard down. Within a few days, he turned into a goofy and playful pup who loved getting pets and scratches! He was then shifted to an enclosure with 8-10 month old dogs who were even-tempered. There are no signs of aggression or distrust visible in Wolf; he has opened up to both humans and canines alike.
Without the hope of ever finding a home or possessing zero street survival skills, this poor puppy’s life would have been a nightmare. At VOSD, he gets to lead a happy and healthy life for the rest of his time. Dogs with behavioural issues require a great deal of personalised care and rehabilitation.
