VOSD+SAW Rescue brings together an expert team and 2 ambulances to rescue and rehabilitate stray dogs in Pune. We are collaborating with SAW and other NGOs in Pune city to save the lives of stray dogs who have met with accidents or are ill.
One such stray dog named Lara was found motionless in the pool of her blood by one of our volunteers. Upon receiving this information, our team rushed to the spot and immediately brought her to the shelter. A medical exam revealed that one of Lara’s veins had ruptured and she was suffering heavy blood loss.
The bleeding was contained by injecting coagulants and applying a pressure bandage. Once the bleeding stopped, Lara was started on a course of antibiotics, painkillers and iron supplements. After almost ten days of medical support and a healthy diet, Lara had healed completely. Since she was fit for surgery and the right age, our team also got her sterilisation operation done. For the next three weeks, Lara stayed at the shelter for post-op care.
Subsequently, a happy and healthy Lara was released back to her location. The sweet kid was happy to be back on her street among familiar friends and family. She will lead a hassle-free life on the street now that she is spayed.
