Laika is sure to make you laugh with her goofy antics. This sweet girl only has three legs but that hasn’t stopped her from leading a happy and fun-filled life in the two years she’s been at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital.
This adorable girl was found by a few students on their college campus; they weren’t sure if she was abandoned or lost. She had an injured leg so they took her to a vet, who suggested that the limb was damaged and had to be amputated. Post-surgery she was taken back to the campus, however, it had become much harder for her to survive with three legs. She was constantly under the threat of vehicle accidents or attacks by the other campus dogs. Her caretakers were devastated at her plight so they requested VOSD to admit and care for her lifelong.
We noticed that Laika is riddled with energy and can hoppity-hop around the whole sanctuary without tiring. Her bright eyes and floppy ears are a sight to behold 🙂 And she makes it a point to greet and play with every dog or human she sees while going about her day!
The VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital cares for hundreds of such special needs dogs who have missing or damaged limbs. Their deformity has never hindered them from leading a content and healthy life with us – but this wouldn’t have been the case had they continued living on the streets. Stray dogs as it is find it tough to fend for food, water and shelter on the streets. These tasks are even scarier for a dog with special needs who can get attacked by healthier streeties, or be hit by vehicles.
