Train Accident survivor Stray Dog whom no one adopted reached the VOSD Sanctuary for life-long care.

A community dog feeder in Pune reported that one of the puppies she was caring for had suffered a gruesome accident – his paw had been crushed after a train accident. The poor pup was rushed to Karma Foundation’s hospital in Pune and since the paw was damaged beyond repair it had to be amputated.

‘Teddy’ as he was named, made a full recovery post-operation, however, he was very fragile so the bones of his other legs began to bend since he wasn’t able to support his full weight on three limbs. So he was started on various lines of medical treatment and over the next few months his bones healed and he grew into a strong and sturdy boy. Various appeals were made to find Teddy a loving home but fell on deaf ears since no one wanted a mixed breed dog with an amputated limb.

Since he had nowhere else to go and couldn’t be released back on the streets, handsome Teddy was surrendered to VOSD for lifelong care. When he first reached the sanctuary he would hide in his room all day. As our team began socialising with him, he realised he loved the company of our other dogs and running around the lush green sanctuary with them! When he tires from all the fun and games, he settles down under the shade of the trees for a mid-afternoon snooze.

Three-legged dogs cannot survive on the streets – it is difficult for them to find food and water or defend attacks from other stray dogs. VOSD is India’s largest rehabilitation centre for differently abled dogs; they are given the right nutrition, advanced medical treatments, and lifelong to lead a comfortable, healthy, and safe life.
