A community dog caretaker in Bengaluru wrote to VOSD about a dog named Titu. Early one morning in October 2022 she heard her pack of dogs barking and went down to check what the commotion was all about. Someone had abandoned the dog outside her home and he had a very large and deep open wound on his neck infested with maggots and blood. Titu appeared terrified and clueless about what to do. She reached out to an NGO to admit the dog for treatment where the doctors also discovered that he was blind in both eyes.
Once his wound had completely healed and he was healthy, he needed a home where he could live in safety. Unfortunately, the rescuer could not mix him with her pack as he needed special care and attention, so she requested us to admit him. VOSD accepts blind stray dogs without a surrender fee so we readily agreed to give Titu a forever home and oodles of love.
We gradually began socialising with him and introducing him to different spaces and dogs so he could familiarise himself with his new home. Within a few days, he began taking off on his own to sniff & explore various parts of the sanctuary! Titu is extremely gentle with both dogs and people and loves to get back rubs and pats. For the rest of his life, he will get the best nutrition, medical care, comfortable accommodation, and companionship at VOSD.
Blind dogs cannot survive on the streets and never find adopters willing to care for them, though they can adapt quite easily to new surroundings. VOSD is India’s largest sanctuary for visually impaired dogs – the only facility of its kind where each ward thrives and leads happy & confident lives. To support us in meeting the food and medical bills of Titu and his friends, please give them a gift INR 5,000 (~$61) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
