Many communities in India consider black-coloured dogs as auspicious – a form of the mighty Kal Bhairav himself. However, one such black stray dog faced the wrath of humanity putting his life in danger. ‘Bhaira’ was a happy pooch who was being looked after on the streets of Bengaluru since he was a puppy. A few months ago, the 6-year-old’s fate turned for the worse when he met with multiple accidents due to two-wheelers hitting him when he was either resting or walking on the roads. As a result, he would chase after bikes trying to protect himself but this was deemed as a threat and the locals were itching to “get rid” of Bhaira.
His feeder knew the vengeful humans would stop at nothing until the dog was dead so she reached out to VOSD’s helpdesk requesting us to admit him. The first step was securing the dog so he was transferred to a boarding centre. Once the wounds on his leg – caused by bikes hitting him and people pelting stones at him – healed, he was transported to the VOSD Sanctuary.
We were shocked at how much Bhaira had been attacked and framed for being a “biter” but in reality, he is the sweetest dog ever! The black beauty loves going on walks and running around the dog parks, sniffing every blade of grass. But what he enjoys, even more, is getting pets and scratches from his caregivers. The once-misunderstood dog is now safe and loved at VOSD. No harm will ever befall him; he will be cherished for the rest of his life.
We appeal to people to prevent such cruelty against stray dogs. They have a life and feel pain too. If you know of a cruelty survivor dog who needs a safe home and medical care, please write to the VOSD Helpdesk (info@vosd.in).
To help us care for Bhaira and his friends at the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital, a kind donation of INR 5,000 (~$62) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
