Old stray dog living everyday in danger finds safety at VOSD

NEW DOG AT VOSD: SENIOR STRAY DOG SUFFERING FROM SPONDYLITIS FINDS GERIATRIC CARE AT VOSD HOSPICE

Miley, an elderly mixed-breed Indian dog who lived on the streets of Bengaluru, watched her world change before her eyes. The younger dogs in her pack began attacking her often – like they say survival of the fittest. The nine-year-old didn’t stand a chance against them and would run into hiding, coming out only at night. This was no way for Miley to live, thought her kind caretaker, so he decided to surrender her to the VOSD Hospice, which admits old and infirm stray dogs for end-of-life geriatric care without any fee.

A thorough medical examination was performed before she reached our sanctuary during which the vets found she suffered from severe spondylitis. Our team chalked out a care plan for Miley so could receive the right treatment from her first day at VOSD. She was started on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines along with the VOSD Joint Care Supplement, which she will be on lifelong. She’s also being given nutritious food to which we add turmeric due to its natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Senior dogs require round-the-clock care just like our elderly parents do, so Miley lives in an enclosure with our other gentle oldies and they are monitored 24×7 by our staff who work in shifts. These dogs are also given soft and warm bedding along with electric or coal heaters to keep them warm through the night. Miley has settled in well with the pack and is making steady medical progress.
