Nearly five years ago, the founder of VOSD Rakesh Shukla received disturbing information about Muthu aka Bablu, a Doberman, who was being physically abused. The man of the house would tie the dog up and beat him repeatedly until his wife – who had raised the dog – would cry and beg him to stop. Seeing her in pain seemed to set the man off more, and the poor canine would continue getting tortured.
This madness finally stopped when a dog lover intervened, and requested us to admit Bablu after rescuing him. VOSD accepts cruelty survivors without charging a surrender fee, and we were relieved to have him live with us.
Can you even image the nightmarish life he led for no fault of his? What kind of a sick person would INTENTIONALLY inflict this kind of pain on a voiceless being? But what’s to admire about Bablu is that he chose not to be broken, hurt or scared but be resilient and courageous. He lives life to the fullest and doesn’t let a minute of his traumatic past ruin his happy days under our care. This majestic baby loves being taken on long walks within our campus and loves running around trees like a film hero!
The eight-year-old was diagnosed with inflamed bowels and liver ailments last year, for which he is on lifelong medication. Due to his advancing age, we constantly monitor his food intake, stools, urine, and overall health with frequent blood tests and vet visits. We promised Bablu five years ago that we’d take care of him well, and we intend to do so forever.
Dogs can’t speak or defend themselves when they suffer from cruelty; they tolerate the abuse with no other option. We urge you to be the ‘voice’ of these babies by standing up against these demonic acts; do not stay silent when you see a pet or stray dog being ill-treated.
You can also help VOSD care for cruelty survivors by contributing for their monthly food & medical bills. A one-time or monthly donation of INR 5,000 (~$68) can help us bring hundreds of dogs like Bablu from their toxic homes into the safety of our sanctuary: www.vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/. Be an abused dog’s saviour today!
