Nayi Kavya was abandoned at the age of ten on the streets of Bengaluru. A rescuer noticed that the senior dog struggled to navigate the street life. Other dogs hounded her, the vehicular traffic befuddled her, and food sources evaded her. She looked extremely worn out and would soon lose the battle if help didn’t arrive.

The kind lady took the old dog home and gave her food and water. It was starkly visible that she had a severe skin infection too. Coincidently, a VOSD team member was in the locality at the time and upon learning of Nayi Kavya’s situation, it was promptly arranged to bring the ailing dog to the sanctuary.

At VOSD, Nayi Kavya was first given a warm medicated bath. We found that her body was covered with scratches and wounds, and she also had an extremely bad ear infection. Further medical examinations revealed that her kidney and liver functions were deteriorating due to advancing age. She was immediately put on supportive renal and hepatic medication meant for life.

To contain her skin condition, we were advised to give her medicated baths for four consecutive weeks. So, we trimmed her coat and bathed her using VOSD’s Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, which contains ketoconazole. Additionally, we also started giving her VOSD’s Superfood & Skin Supplement with Omega & α-Linolenic, which is very effective in restoring dogs’ skin and coat health. Nayi Kavya was groomed regularly and was put on a course of antibiotics for a whole month post which she emerged completely infection-free and beautiful. The gentle dog is now leading a peaceful, comfortable life at VOSD devoid of any stressors physical or mental. She has access to regular nutritious food and the loving care of trained medical professionals.

Nayi Kavya was an ageing Golden Retriever whose health issues were neglected by her previous owners and when her condition worsened, they abandoned her leaving the senior pooch to deal with all the consequent complications alone. At VOSD, we have the wherewithal and the intent to care for a high-maintenance breed like hers, but we do need help to provide lifelong care to Nayi Kavya.
