Old and malnourished dog collapsed – UPDATE

SENIOR STRAY DOG RECOVERS FROM COMPLETE COLLAPSE WITH VOSD’S ADVANCED LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL CARE

The winter months are harsh on stray dogs, especially old and Infirm canines. One such 13-year-old named Eva who was suffering on the streets was surrendered to VOSD recently for end-of-life care. She was literally a bag of bones – it was evident she hadn’t had access to food in weeks. So we started her on a high-protein nutritious diet along with supplements for her kidneys and liver.

For all senior dogs like Eva they get specialised care in the winter:
* Weather-proof jackets to keep them warm
* Soft bedding
* Temperature-controlled enclosures with heating
* Regular health check-ups including blood tests and further diagnostics

Despite these layers of care, Eva collapsed a few days ago because her body wasn’t able to maintain optimal temperature. We immediately connected her on an oxygen cylinder and gave her medication to stabilise her heart rate. With the help of a heating pad and infrared lamp her temperature began to rise. Since she hadn’t eaten since morning so we administered IV fluids as well as per our veterinary doctor’s advise.

By evening Eva was back on her feet and ate her meal! VOSD’s advanced medical care and facilities helped such a senior pooch recover from complete collapse. For a dog who once was uncared for on the streets but came to the VOSD hospice, we will not let her go without a fighting chance.

Hundreds of senior stray dogs who were neglected or abused and were on the brink of death get advanced and multiple levels of care at VOSD. No matter how grave the situation, we will not give up on our wards. To help us save more such helpless canines from across India, please donate INR 5,000 ($63) one-time or monthly: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
