It is illegal to relocate stray dogs in India. Dogs are extremely territorial. They maintain a system of having their own territories – neither do they let other dogs enter it nor do they venture into other territories. When you relocate dogs, you’re throwing them into a strange territory. The other dogs will perceive this as a threat and attack, the same way you would react if a stranger enters your home! By relocating stray dogs you are essentially condemning them to death..
Sadly, this was Lucky’s past. He was born on the street but illegally relocated to another place with his mother and siblings. The family struggled to survive. The bigger dogs attacked them and all of Lucky’s siblings lost their lives. Lucky too was attacked and left with a severe wound. Thankfully, a kind person noticed the plight of this poor puppy and rushed him to an NGO. Lucky soon recovered, but the bite had damaged his shoulder muscle so badly that he was left with a dislocated shoulder.
Humanity failed poor Lucky again when no one came forth to adopt this sweet dog. They saw him as being “damaged”. But we know that Lucky is anything but damaged! He is brave, loving and playful and would’ve made a great pet! But no one gave him that chance. When there was no other hope left, Lucky was brought to VOSD!
VOSD is the largest home for special needs dogs in India. We were happy to take in Lucky and his life has completely changed ever since! Although, it took him some time to trust humans again, he soon realised that not all humans are bad and that our doting caregivers are the good kind! Lucky is the most goofy, active and energetic dog around! He loves our caregivers but not as much as they love him!
Hundreds of special needs dogs get the best possible care at VOSD to live a comfortable life with dignity. Please support us by donating INR 5,000 (~$66) towards our monthly expenses and be the Voice of Stray dogs in India. www.vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/
