Snappy abandoned dog accepts love from his caregivers

MEET A VOSD DOG: ABANDONED FOR BEING SNAPPY, LEE IS NOW A FRIENDLY POOCH WHO LOVES CUDDLES!

Around two years ago, villagers near the VOSD Sanctuary & Hospital frantically appealed to us to admit an abandoned pet dog. “He’s too snappy for us to handle, which is why everyone has refused to adopt him,” they told us. They handed over an angry, snarling dog and ran for their lives.

The best name we could think of for this feisty fellow was Bruce Lee. He proved us right by jumping up six feet to catch treats, and prying open the pantry door to raid its contents. This helped us realise that the best way to earn his trust was through food, so we fed him biscuits, chew sticks and other goodies during socialising sessions. Within no time, he opened up to our caregivers and transformed into a friendly and happy boy.

Lee spent many months playing under the canopy of trees, but when the heavy rains flooded VOSD last year, his life turned upside down. He fell terribly ill and needed an immediate blood transfusion, followed by medication. What surprised us was just how cheery and playful he remained even during his worst… it probably motivated him to recover soon. With four months of intense treatment, a nutritious diet, and round the clock care, Bruce Lee bounced back and how! He grew a beautiful coat, got his energy back, and developed a voracious appetite. He can now run around the whole day without tiring.

Lee was abandoned for his ‘bad behaviour’, but we believe that no dog is difficult to handle. Understanding a dog’s needs and consistently working with them to improve their temperament can help snappy unpredictable canines become balanced happy pooches.
