“Adopt a stray if you want the most special and loyal friend. It’ll change your perception about life,” Sahana wrote to us, wishing to share how her baby Zooey completely changed her life.
Sahana is a single child whose parents would frequently travel overseas on work. That would often leave her to be independent and incharge of the house. Unfortunately, during these lonely weeks, she went into depression and developed crippling social anxiety – which meant not even leaving her bedroom to grab a plate of food from the kitchen.
This went on for months together, until one day, a friend asked Sahana to accompany her to the Chinnapannahalli Lake, where she would feed cows and stray dogs. Initially, Sahana was very scared to touch or go near the dogs but over time she grew comfortable enough to spend her evenings with them. “I preferred their company over anything else!” she said. One of the streeties had given birth to two adorable pups. She fell in love with them and after persistent requests, Sahana’s family agreed to adopt one of them.
Enter Zooey – she was a ball of infectious energy! It was tough to keep up with her but she truly taught her humans how to love and live every minute. “You could watch her feel the breeze and enjoy every second of being alive,” Sahana shared.
Taking care of Zooey was her ticket to getting back on her feet. She taught Sahana the value of discipline and maintaining a schedule, but more than anything else she taught her how to have fun!
Despite her mischief and games, Zooey has a very sensitive side to her. The family noticed how highly sensitive the doggo was to their emotions, be it sadness or anger. She would be there to remind them to pause and take a step back from whatever they were doing at the moment.
The beautiful Zooey is now 8.5 years old, and still has the soul of a one-year-old! Sahana says she could go on and on about how nosy her pooch is and wants to be involved with everything she does, but the takeaway from this heart-warming story is how by rescuing Zooey, she was rescued in return.
There are many stray dogs out there who are waiting for you to make their lives colourful; bring them home and they will change your life completely for the better.
